Witchy decor doesn't have to mean black paint, gothic wallpaper, & human skulls. Of course, it can if that's what speaks to you ;-)

Witchy Aesthetic

Merry meet, enchanting friends!

When I began embracing the witchy aesthetic, I was hesitant to redecorate my entire home in black & muted hues with candles, plants, and gothic architectural elements in every corner of every room.

Then I realized that my home's decor can be whatever I choose it to be!

Gothic Interiors

I love black, but I also love the deep, moody hues of violet, red, peacock blue, glittery golds, & chartreuse.

I once had a couch the color of a red delicious apple. It didn't match anything else I owned, but I loved it.

Fear was the only reason I ever got rid of it. Fear of others' negative comments on my style & design choices. Fear of looking a fool because I never saw the things I loved at others' houses.

Now I know different!

Now I understand that items speak differently to different people. Just because my sister would never have a bright red couch in her house, doesn't make it the wrong choice for mine.

Like many older (& dare I say, wiser) women, I've realized that embracing what makes me different from others is often what makes me feel the most joy in my daily life.

So, buy the red couch if it speaks to you, snag the vintage tea set at your local thrift store, hang up those velvet teal curtains, & place that purple tufted ottoman with the brass feet front & center in your living room!

If you love it, go for it!

There's some great design advice out there, much of it helpful for the budding designer in you. Watch it, read it, consume it however you want.

Heed all that good advice from the professionals. Then do what speaks to you, your heart, & your soul.

Create the Witchy Abode You Love to Live In

Not every house is a home. It depends on the individuals living in the abode & whether or not they've had the chance to make the space their own. Make it reflective of their personalities, desires, & energy.

Your practice of witchcraft is a personal choice you get to personalize for yourself. And embracing & integrating your witchy beliefs into your home doesn't need to be complicated.

Your style doesn't need to follow any specific design aesthetic such as dark academia, gothic, or boho.

Your interior style is a reflection of you whether that includes gothic architectural elements, japandi wooden furniture, & colorful morrocan light fixtures, or not.

And don't think you need to choose only one style throughout your home either. It's okay to combine different design elements & styles. It's also okay to consider yourself eclectic & incorporate a swirl of styles, colors, & pieces in whatever combination you enjoy most.

Eclectic Living Room

Personally I most enjoy color, character, & comfort. These are the three most important attributes I look for in any item I'm considering bringing back to my witchy home.

What do you look for most?

Is there a favorite color that speaks loudest to you?

Purple hues like amethyst & eggplant catch my eye over any other. There's nothing wrong with filling your home with the colors you like best.

Surround yourself with the things you love most, colors included.

Pinterest

If you're a visual person like me you probably love Pinterest too.

I create boards for every room & area of my home collecting ideas & pictures of what speaks to me most, what would be useful for those spaces, & design elements I'd love to incorporate.

Pinterest is the perfect place to house a plethora of vision boards for every nook & cranny of your home!

Simple browsing & searching for styles you find interesting will help you learn what you like & don't like most. It's a great place to start because it gives you a glimpse of what's out there, what speaks to you, & what makes you screw up your face in confusion & distaste.

Your Design Preferences Will Change

I fell in love with marble-everything in my 20s. A couple of decades later & I don't see much of it when I look around my home.

Kitchen counters, a mortar & pestle, & a bookend might be it.

Nowadays, function is more important to me than it used to be in many areas of my home.

And marble end stands are too heavy to move & clean underneath every other week.

All of this is to say, don't worry about trying out different pieces in your home. What speaks to you today might not in two years, or ten, or twenty. And that's okay. Life's a journey & our needs, wants, & styles all reflect that.

What are some of your favorite pieces in your home? Is there a design style you find yourself coming back to over & over again? Is there more than one you love?
