Witchy Properties

This recipe includes ingredients for the perfect protection spell!

Salt is probably the most commonly known addition used in witchcraft spells, blessings, & rituals. Even baby witches have heard of its protective properties.

Onions, garlic, salt, pepper, & olive oil all have magical properties that include protection & repelling negativity.

And lemons are full of bright, cleansing energy! Their scent is such an energy boost too. I love adding a squeeze to recipes. Or even a tall glass of water!

And then, of course, we have paprika which is great to boost your spell work & energy.

On top of all the protective ingredients in this dish, we get to add sigils to the baking dish with olive oil!

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup Olive Oil
  • Juice of 1 Lemon
  • 2 teaspoons Onion Powder
  • 2 teaspoons Salt
  • 2 teaspoons Garlic Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Black Pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Smoked Paprika
  • 1/4 cup Worcestershire or Tamari Sauce
  • 1/4 cup Brown Sugar
  • 10 Chicken Drumsticks and/or Thighs

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl whisk together the olive oil, lemon juice, onion powder, salt, garlic powder, black pepper, smoked paprika, Worcestershire or Tamari sauce, & brown sugar.
  2. Place your chicken into a large Ziploc bag & pour the mixed marinade over the chicken. Close the bag & massage the marinade into the chicken a few times.
  3. Refrigerate the bag of chicken with marinade for at least 30 minutes. I usually throw mine in the fridge the morning before my planned dinner. Letting the chicken marinate for a few hours seems to give it the best flavor.
  4. Preheat the oven to 425'
  5. Line a large baking dish with parchment paper. I use a 9x13" glass baking dish when I have both drumsticks & thighs. If I'm making only drumsticks I use a 9" square bake pan.
  6. Using a pastry brush (or the tip of a gloved finger)draw protection sigils on the parchment paper with olive oil.
  7. Arrange your chicken in an even layer on the baking dish. It's okay if the pieces touch as long as the chicken isn't piled on top of each other.
  8. Now is a great time to speak, whisper, or think your protection spell, share your intentions with the universe. (I've included my own below, but feel free to use your own!)
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes then flip the chicken & cook for an additional 5-10 minutes, until cooked through.*

*Cooked chicken should reach an internal temperature of 165' before eating.

You're going to love how quick & easy the prep for this dish is!

And it's so simple to double the ingredients & use two baking dishes when you're expecting extra dinner guests.

A fresh summer salad is a great side dish for this especially if you're planning on eating outside on the patio like we often do during the warm summer months here.
